10 Simple Kitchen Tips

Learning to cook is important, but can be intimidating if you’ve never done more than boil water, open cans and zap frozen entrees. Navigating the kitchen is much easier if you know a few simple tricks that seasoned chefs take for granted. 1.Use tongs to cooking pretty much everything Spatulas are awesome for anything that needs to be flipped or scraped, like eggs and pancakes. For everything else, tongs are the way to go. They’re much more nimble and less awkward to use, and you’ll find far fewer things jumping from your pan onto the floor. If you have non-stick cookware, be sure to use tongs with nylon tips. And always go for the 12-inchers. 2. Store everything in tupperware As much as I’d like to be the kind of person who trims their herbs, puts them in an vase then wraps them in a damp paper towel so they last a week, I’m way too lazy for that. The good news though is that tupperware keeps almost everything fresh for much longer than your crisper, including ber...

Rocker Cradle by Scott Morrison

This 18th century style Windsor Nanny Rocker uses a classic rocking chair design as a basis. In addition to the classical elements of this chair here you can see that this design has some different shapes for the cradle base. The rail follows the shape of the base, but also has a shape of its own, making it different from a basic rocking chair. To add more effect to the chair it would be interesting to create spindles that would connect with the asymmetry of the base and the rail. These spindles must be made in a uniform way in order to accommodate the flow of the rail. Functional Art is artwork that is meant to be used, enjoyed and has a purpose beyond merely looking nice while hanging on a wall. A Rocking Chair, when crafted and created with an artists hand, transcends the realm of furniture and becomes more. The chair becomes an extension of the craftsman and creator; it becomes functional art. Source:   finewoodworker

Wash Your Fruits & Veggies With Vinegar

Many fruits and vegetables are grown with pesticides to get rid of bugs. Although nobody wants to find a creepy crawly thing in a peach or tomato, even small doses of pesticides can adversely affect your health and are worrisome, not well understood, and in some cases are completely unstudied. Fortunately, you can drastically reduce your exposure to pesticides and bacteria found on produce with a thorough vinegar and water wash. Experts found that a white vinegar and water wash kills 98% of bacteria and removes pesticides.

How To Paint Furniture Like a Pro

Here are a few key things that it takes to paint furniture and end up with that polished, professional look.  1. Use Fine Grit Sandpaper to Sand - For a really polished look, sand really well. Start with 100 grit sandpaper, then go over the piece again with 220 and then 320 or 400 grit sandpaper, until the surface is completely smooth.  2 . Clean Thoroughly – In order to avoid imperfections under the paint, you must clean the piece thoroughly with Windex or TSP. Make sure to get the little dust bunnies out of the corners of beveled edges, using the tips I posted here.  3. Spray on the Primer – If you do need to prime, use a spray primer in order to get an even surface. The primer that I have found to have a really good smooth finish is Cover Stain spray primer.  4. Sand the Primer – For an extra polished finish, sand a little with 320 grit sandpaper after spraying the primer. Then, remember again to clean the piece thoroughly.  5. Spray on the Paint ...
